InfoCom-2007: DAY 1
Opening Ceremony of InfoCom 2007 Exhibition.
The opening ceremony commenced in traditional fashion with an address by Leonid Reiman, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Russia. He conveyed a greeting from the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, spoke of the innovations and the new format of the exhibition and made some announcements. Andrei Fursenko, the Minister of Education and Science of Russia then took the floor. The Duma deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky was also present at the ceremony, as well as the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Boris Antonyuk and top-managers from leading Russian ICT companies. After his speech Mr. Reiman signed an online version of the exhibition opening order on the touch screen. Exhibition Visit of Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov
The Prime Minister of RussiaVictor Zubkov visited InfoCom. During his tour of the exhibition he was acquainted with the Russian system of registration and control of personal biometric data in foreign passports, and the "Vybory" State Automated System for voting. Mr. Zubkov approved of the proposal of the company Tetrasvyaz to use new digital technologies and the satellite navigation system GLONASS for co-ordination and maintaining of national borders. He also spoke out in favour of maintaining operating post-offices of Russian Post in all populated areas. The company Cognitive Technologies presented the Prime Minister an Emergency Call System with a single phone number - "112".

Press Conference by Leonid Reiman
During the press conference Mr. Reiman spoke of his plans for 2008. Next year the Russian Investment Fund for Information-Communicative Technologies (RIFICT) will commence operations, and a federal tele-medical network will be founded. He also informed press members of a draft bill on a special tax regime for Russian IT companies working in the export sector.

Business Forum
Leonid Reiman took part in the business forum "Electronic Breakthrough. Can Russia Become a Leader in Information Technologies?"
In his speech the Minister emphasised that Russia has all the necessary resourses and, therefore it can and must take its place among the leaders in high technologies. However, without government involvement it is unlikely that Russian companies will be able to reach the top in this sector. Mr. Reiman went on to speak of measures taken to support the development of high-intellect industries of this country. Speakers later discussed possible solutions for current problems and the way forward for Russia to achieve leading positions in information communications.

Leonid Reiman visited the presentation of the annual "Readiness Index of Russian Regions for Information Society". The absolute leaders in ICT development are Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Exhibition Tour by Leonid Reiman. First Call in the 3G Network
During his official tour of the exhibition Leonid Reiman made Russia's first 3rd Generation (3G) network call. This video conversation was between Mr. Reiman and Valentina Matviyenko, the Governor of St. Petersburg.
Mr. Reiman also joined President of MTS Melamedov, and Editor-in-Chief of "Vesti" channel Mednikov in a trial live broacast of the "Vesti" channel on a mobile 'phone using the 3G MTS network, presented earlier at InfoCom 2007.
 

Russian-Japanese Forum
The Russian-Japanese Forum was dedicated to cooperation in information technologies. Matters disscussed at the Forum included the creation of industrial parks in Russia, investment into Russian information and communication businesses, 3G network development and prospects for cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Techology Milovantsev represented Russia at the Forum. The Japanese side was represented by Kiyoshi Mori, Deputy Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Communications of the Government of Japan.

Technologies for All
A seminar dedicated to the practical use of Linux and open source software for government organizations was held at the infoLunix exposition.
A series of events called "Gadgets - Small Objects That Surround Us" were held at the site of the "School of Technology"

Press Conferences and Exhibitors' Presentations
During the press conference members of Russian Post presented new facilities in financial, postal and banking services, such as online service provider payment, "Cybermoney" wire transfer service and bank card operations using self-service terminals.
